"Rev. Uriel Lorenzo Harshfield went home to be with the Lord, June the 9th 2006. He was born the 4th of October 1920, in Delaware, Arkansas to William Barnum and Ruby Smith Harshfield. On July the 2nd 1960, he married Geralean Eleanor Johnson, affectionately known by all as simply - Gerry.
He was a bookworm and a scholar. Before he was 12 years of age, he had read every book in the Wright Library near his home, in the Stock Yards area of Oklahoma City. He graduated from Capitol Hill High School in 1941. After attending OCU as a law student, he passed the bar exam in 1948, on the first try. He had a law practice in Cheyenne, Oklahoma and Oklahoma City. He worked at the Oklahoma State School Land Division in the State Capitol for 18 years, traveling to all 77 counties. He had a favorite restaurant in each town he visited; and you can be sure they made good coconut cream pie.
He was born again on Mother's Day at the age of 12. Hearing the Call of God at a very young age, he was ordained in the Assemblies of God. He pastored a Pentecostal Church of God in El Reno, Oklahoma. He founded "The Church of the New Life" and pastored there for 22 years before retiring. He was a member and past president of World Ministry Fellowship.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Leonora Springer and his son, John Mark. Being the dedicated man of God that he was, he preached all of his family's funerals, including his own son's.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years; daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and Wayne Zettlemoyer, and La Nell and Michael Shores; grandchildren, Heather and Christian Portwood, Trinity and Chris Bilodeau, Michael and Twyla Shores, David Shores, and Rachel and Joseph Ellis; great-grandchildren, Caleb Uriel Portwood; Kaytlin, Tad and Madelin Shores; William, Matthew and Miriam Ellis, and a host of spiritual children.
He was a "Preacher of Righteousness," a teacher of the Word of God and a faithful minister of the Gospel."
Written by M. La Nell Shores and read at his funeral. A shorter version was placed in the Oklahoman in Oklahoma City on Sunday, June 11, 2006.

His funeral service was held in the chapel of Mercer-Adams Funeral Home in Bethany, Oklahoma. The obituary was read by World Ministry Fellowship President, David Bentley. A short eulogy was given by Rev. Charles Rogers with the message given by Rev. Gayle Gardner. Rachel Ellis sang The Love of God, accompanied by Tommy France. Rachel and Joseph Ellis performed the duet More Than Wonderful. His daughter, Debbie Harshfield spoke on what her dad meant to her. There were well over 200 family and friends in attendance. Pall Bearers were David Paul Smith, Christian Portwood, Chris Bilodeau, Michael C. Shores, David Shores and Joseph Ellis. David Paul is his cousin; Michael and David were grandsons; Joseph, Christian and Chris were his grandsons-in-law.
